Protecting your device

  Last updated:

Please take the time to read and understand the guidance provided below to help ensure the longevity of your device and protect against misuse.

Trust Payments shall not be liable or responsible for any loss of or damage arising out of or in connection with unsafe or unauthorized use of the equipment.

Environment

Our hardware is not resistant to water, dust, sand or dirt, therefore we recommend against outdoor use.

Do not store or operate the device in excessively cold, hot or humid environments.

Regularly clean your device following our guidance to prevent the build-up of dust or dirt.

If the device has been damaged, disconnect it from the power supply immediately and contact us for help.

Password protection

When you set the device up for the first time, ensure you change the default manager password.

Only share the manager password with personnel that have a legitimate business reason to operate the device.

When a worker no longer needs access to the device, change the manager password immediately.

You should enact procedures in your organisation to ensure the manager password is regularly updated.

Protect your device like it's your own credit card.
You wouldn't leave your credit card unattended in a public setting or in the hands of someone you don't know and trust. The same applies to your payment terminal.

During opening hours

Do not leave the device unattended. Do not let customers operate the device without supervision.

Be aware of your surroundings. Bad actors may try to distract staff so they leave the device unattended.

Be wary of demanding customers as they may be trying to coerce you into processing unauthorised refunds.

In most cases of fraud, the human operator is the weakest link.
Adhere to your company policies and only refund customers if they have a valid proof of purchase.

Outside of opening hours

When not in use, store the equipment in a secure area out of sight of customers and other personnel.

Ensure the device is connected to power and has an internet connection overnight to allow for security updates to be downloaded and installed.

Make a habit of regularly reviewing records of sales and refunds for suspicious patterns.

Monitor refunds processed for unusual behaviour, such as high frequency, large amounts or repeated use of the same card.

Cross reference your sales records with your inventory records to identify discrepancies that could indicate theft.

When terminating your contract with Trust Payments, please contact us to arrange collection, where we will dispose of the hardware safely.
