The “Pay by Link” page simplifies the process of requesting a new payment from a customer. A link is generated that opens a secure checkout page (hosted by Trust Payments) in the customer's browser, allowing the customer to process a transaction to your selected Site Reference. You can either opt to have the aforementioned link copied to your clipboard so it can be easily pasted into a message to a customer, or have it emailed to them directly.
Required user roles
Admin, PaybyLink
How to access
Select “Pay by Link” from the left (this is found under the "Payments" header).
“Transaction Details” section
As a minimum, you will need to fill out the form displayed under the “Transaction Details” section:
- Site reference – Specify the site reference for the payment.
- Currency – Select a currency from those enabled on your account.
- Amount – Enter the transaction amount (e.g. “10.99” or “10,99”).
-
Language – From the list provided, select the language for the checkout experience.
Note: When using Payment Pages version 1, only UK and US locales are supported. - Order Reference – You can optionally assign a custom reference of your own. You can use this to help identify the transaction at a later time.
“Advanced Settings” section
- Settle Due Date (UTC) – Providing the transaction is authorised by the issuing bank, this is the date when the settlement process begins. Learn more about settlement.
- Payment Pages Version – Select the version of Payment Pages to be used. There are two options:
Version 1 (Legacy)
Version 2 (Recommended)
- Payment Pages Profile – For Payment Pages version 2, you can specify a custom profile that is used to apply changes to the appearance and behaviour of the page.
- Credentials on File – Specifies whether payment credentials are to be stored for future use.
-
Settle Status – This setting is used to instruct the payment gateway on how to handle the authorised transaction prior to settlement:
- “Pending” – This setting allows our built-in internal Fraud and Duplicate checks to be performed (if enabled) prior to settlement.
- “Manual” – This setting bypasses our built-in internal Fraud and Duplicate checks (if enabled) prior to settlement.
- “Suspended” – This setting delays settlement of the transaction until you manually update the status at a later time. Learn more about suspended transactions.
"Email Details" section
The “Email Details” section contains extra fields for when you are opting to email the payment link to the customer directly, rather than generating the link for you to send manually.
- First / Last Name – The billing name shown in the email.
- Email To – The customer's billing email address. The email will be sent here.
- Email Reply To – Replies to the email are sent to this email address.
- BCC Email To – A copy of the Pay by Link email will be sent to the address(es) specified here. When including multiple email addresses, separate them using commas(,) or semicolons(;).
- Email Subject – The subject shown on the email.
- Additional Information – You can enter additional text here for inclusion in the email (e.g. Personalised message to the customer).
Changing the default values
You can assign your own default values for things like the language or email subject by selecting "Settings" at the top of the page and filling in the form provided. Once you select "Save Changes", the Pay by Link page will refresh.
From now on, whenever you open the Pay by Link page, the form will be pre-populated with your new default values. You can return to settings at any time to make further changes.
Generating the link
After you have filled out the above, there are two methods in which you can generate a link to the secure checkout page:
Generate Link
Selecting the "Generate Link" button at the bottom of the page will generate and display a URL to your checkout.
Select "Copy Link" to copy the URL to your clipboard. You can then paste the link into a message to your customer.
Send email
Providing you have filled out the “Email Details” section on the page, selecting the "Send Email" button will immediately send an email to the customer containing a link to the checkout.
Before sending an email to the customer requesting payment, we recommend sending an email to your own email address to ensure the account configuration and company logo appears correctly.
Terms
A generated link can only be used by one customer. If you need to send payment links to multiple customers, you will need to generate a new link for each customer.
Links are valid for 14 days after they are generated. The customer will be prohibited from completing the payment if they have failed to do so within this 14-day period. If this occurs, you can choose to send a new link to the customer, if needed.
